What is changing?
From 1st October our phone call system is changing.
If you wish to speak to a doctor by phone on the same day, please telephone the surgery before 11am.
If you call after 11am, you will be booked a routine telephone call for the next working day.
If you wish to speak to a specific doctor, this will also be booked for the next day this doctor is working. If you are calling about an ongoing problem, it is usually better to speak with the doctor who has been dealing with it.
You can still get advice for new urgent medical problems on the same day if needed. (If you think you need an urgent appointment rather than a phone call, book through reception.)
Why is this happening?
Over the last few years the number of phone calls taken by doctors has increased hugely. They take up several hours of each doctor’s time every day.
Asking patients to phone in the morning will allow us to plan our work better and will reduce delays to afternoon surgeries.
The doctor will call back after morning surgery, usually between 11.30am and 3pm. Please ensure that you keep your phone switched on and with you as “missed calls” waste a huge amount of time.
Who else can help?
Test results can usually be given by reception between 1pm and 3pm. Please call reception in the first instance.
Queries about referrals, letters, sick notes etc can be dealt with by our reception staff who will speak with the doctor if needed.
