Closure of Richards Medical Centre – 2nd September 2016

Closure of Richards Medical Centre – 2nd September 2016

We are writing to let you know that Richards Medical Centre will be closing on 2nd September, 2016.

In September 2016, Dr Peter Saunders will retire from General Practice after 26 years at Richards Medical Centre. Following a review and engagement with you, our patients, the Partners concluded that regrettably it will not then be possible to continue to provide the same level of service and that it is in the best long term interests of all of the patients for the practice to close Richards Medical Centre and this has been approved by the CCG.

How will this affect you as patients?

You can continue to access GP services at Donnington Health Centre. If you are registered at Richards Medical Centre you do not have to do anything, your registration will continue and you will be seen at Donnington Health Centre. A new GP will be allocated to patients of Dr Saunders. Dr Dunlop. Dr Hayward and Dr Hoult who work at Richards Medical Centre will be conducting surgeries at Donnington Health Centre.

You may choose to register with another Practice.

To find about the closest GP practices in your area you can visit the NHS Choices website via http://www.nhs.uk/Service-Search/GP/LocationSearch/4 to find a list of practices and contact details.

Alternatively, if you need support in identifying who to register with, you can contact NHS England’s Customer Contact Centre on 0300 311 2233 who can give you information about GP practices closest to where you live.

In order to become registered with a different practice, you will simply need to complete a form which will be available at the practice of your choice. It will be helpful if you take with you proof of identity, proof of address and your NHS Number. If you are taking repeat medication you should ensure that you have enough for at least two weeks to allow time for your new doctor to review your medication. Once your registration form has been processed, your current medical records will be transferred electronically to your new Practice within days and any existing appointments will be automatically cancelled.

As a larger facility, Donnington Health Centre provides more standard services from GPs, nurses and phlebotomists and also operates slightly differently to Richards Medical Centre:

Repeat prescriptions: these can be ordered online, at the surgery, in writing or through the pharmacist. The current telephone prescription line is due to be phased out in the near future. We strongly suggest that you arrange for electronic prescribing with your usual chemist so that prescriptions can be sent to them without the need for collection from the surgery by them or you. To do this, please speak to a receptionist or your chemist.

Test results: we ask patients to phone the surgery after 2.00 p.m. for test results.

Pre-booked appointments with doctors and nurses are available on Saturday mornings for those who find attending in the week difficult. The surgery is not open on Saturday mornings for urgent appointments or administrative issues. If you have an urgent medical problem at the weekend, you should call 111 or 999 in an emergency.

Please be advised that if you do not register with another GP practice by the 2nd September then your registration will continue at Donnington Health Centre.

If you have any questions regarding the closure of Richards Medical Centre you can contact the Practice Manager; Alan Mordue on 01865 771 313 or donningtonmedicalpartnership@nhs.net

We would like to thank all our patients for their great loyalty and consideration over the years and during this period of change and for the feedback they have given us throughout the consultation period.
